Union Army Controls the Game

Union Army 7 vs Deerfield 3

In the last match up of the night Union Army and Deerfield matched for a battle of the undefeated. Both teams entered 1-0 and only one would leave with a undefeated title. Union Army quickly drew first blood with a early unassisted goal and as the rain started coming down harder so did the number of shots from the UA boys in black. Deerfield goal tender had 11 saves on the night but was unable to stop all 18 shots on goal. Union Army moves to 2-0 and Deerfield moves to 1-1 on the season.

Mirage 2.0 is 2-1 Wits a Solid Win Over Jam

Jam 4 vs Mirage 2.0 10

In the second game of the second week Mirage and Jam set for a victory. Mirage 2.0 looked on point in their second game of the night. Scrappy plays and a dynamic offense was too much for the Jam defense. Both goal tenders had over 10 saves but Mirage would end up the victor. Mirage moves to 2-1 and Jam moves to 0-2.

Mirage Over OBN in Solid Victory

Mirage 2.0 6 vs OBN 4

On another rainy night the Mirage and OBN squads were both looking for their first wins of the season. Both teams took their time getting points on the board with the Mirage taking the first goal at the 7 minute mark with a beautiful assist. Another Mirage team goal would soon follow and OBN answered with an unassisted goal of their own. Team work and solid play would be the story of this game however with Mirage going up 5-1 on OBN early in the second half. OBD was able to take it within 2 goals with a late rally but it would be Mirage taking home their first victory.

Some say it was luck, others say it's just Queen City doing what Queen City does

Varsity Booze 5 vs Queen City 9

Coming hot out of the gates, last year's champions (Queen City) pulled away with the first 2 goals and commanding the lead with some offensive firepower. With that said, Varsity Booze quickly restructured the defensive assembly and forced some ideal turnarounds which results in a 4-3 edge for Queen City at half time. The Queen City boys clearly have been working out in the off season because their pace didn't flinch as they streaked into the second half with 5 goals for a total of 9 goals on the final score sheet. Varsity Booze will be looking to make a big comeback next week as they look to prove themselves as contenders in this year's race for the 'chip!

905 Squad Looking to Contend for the Chip

Men with Sticks 4 vs 905 Squad 7

What a game last night between these two awesome teams! Both units came out to play and although a close one, the 905 Squad pulled out on top. Last year these boys finished 2nd place and it seems as though they are coming back out with something to prove. In the 1st half of the game they pulled well ahead with a total score of 4-1. In the second half, the Men with Stick found their second wind and started to tickle the twine, scoring 3 goals and tying it up, however the 905 squad stayed consistent with the full offensive pressure and potted a few extra's to secure the 7-4 win. Definitely two teams to watch this year!

Union Army over Mirage 2.0

Union Army 7 vs Mirage 2.0 1

Huge props to the Union Army and Mirage 2.0 men for bringing their all during a night where the rain kept coming down (making it increasingly difficult keep write the score so I apologize if I miss some stats). Union Army took the lead early going up by 3 goals by Pat Murphy, Brendan Schafer and Evan Anderson. Mirage's Mason Ade answered with a goal of their own making the sore 3-1 to conclude the first half. Union Army controlled the ball almost exclusively in the second half dominating time of possession until the lights turned off at 9:45 ending the game in dramatic fashion. Brenden Schafer was this game's MVP and scored a fresh pair of Powell socks.

Fairfield Grifters edge the defending Champs in an OT Thriller!

Fairfield Grifters 10 vs ULAX Select 9

This was one of the best games, if not the best game, ever hosted at a ULAX Cup Tournament. The ULAX Select team entered the game undefeated in tournament play (5-0), while the Grifters (4-1) only loss came at the hands of the Select team the day before. Jim Bauer, the Fairfield Grifters head coach, was focused throughout the tournament and made some slight adjustments for the championship game. The Grifters started out hot and seemed to hold a 2-3 goal advantage throughout the first half, but it was in the second half that the ULAX Select team began to wake up. They scored five unanswered goals to tie it up at nine a piece and just when you didn't think the game could get any better it went to Overtime. The Fairfield team won the opening possession and didn't look back. The game winner by Liam McNamara stunned the crowd and the ULAX Select team, which looked unbeatable the day before. The Grifters popped a few cold one's on their way to their first Liberty Cup title and this game certainly raised the bar in terms of overall talent and excitement at a ULAX tourney. Eric Luhrmann provided strong goaltending for Fairfield as well and the top player nod for Select goes to Tyler DeVito, who scored 3 Goals.
